- Helpers are needed in our Thrift Store. Help to organize donations, price items, hang up clothes and assist customers as needed. No formal experience necessary. Small groups are welcome.
- Lend a hand and be a craft helper, an activity greeter, a storyteller, help set up and/or clean up during our children's programs. Our "Sensational Program" is held on Friday evenings and/or Saturday mornings.
- Help make your neighborhood a better place to live. Call us if you see street lights that are not working, big pot holes in the road, extremely littered roadways, graffiti, unsafe traffic conditions at pedestrian crossings, vacant or abandoned homes. Neighborhood Watch and Block Captains needed.
- The Central Islip Civic Council holds "Special Community Events" during the year; they are held at the Central Islip Civic Council and locally throughout the Central Islip community. Get involved and lend a hand; make event signs, hand out flyers at the event, help spread the word and tell your neighbors what is going on. Even if only for an hour or two, your help is greatly appreciated.
- Do you like to garden or grow flowers? Then, give us a hand in our garden with seasonal planting, creating and maintaining exisiting flower beds, light weeding, watering, transplanting seedlings, making flower bouquets and harvesting vegetables etc… Our garden helps to provided fresh vegetables for our food pantry which helps families in need with food on a monthly basis. Small groups are welcome.
- Would you like to learn what it was like to live on a farm back in the 1800's? How would you like to share what you learn with school children that visit us during school trips. We offer a "Step Back in Time" program that revolves around what it was like for children to live on a homestead in the 1800's. During these trips we need volunteers to run a learning station that the children will visit during their short stay here at the Central Islip Civic Counci's Heines Homestead.
- We offer High School and College students the opportunity to complete their community service requirements here at the Central Islip Civic Council. We are in walking distance from the Central Islp High School and close to public transportation.
- Join our Parks/Community Center Committee - Meetings are held at the Central Islip Recreation Center, 555 Clayton Street, CI each month at 7pm. Call for our next meeting date.
- Food Drive Coordinators needed. Help to coordinate a food drive in your school, church, work place, club, troop etc... Then, donate the collected food items to our emergency food pantry. We serve over 3,000 families in need each year and are always in need of non-perishable items.
- Do you like yard sales? How would you like to help out with a monthly yard sale, here at the Central Islip Civic Council. Proceeds will benefit our emergency food pantry.
- Donate... New and gently used items are accepted and donation receipts are given. (clean clothing, coats and shoes for women, men and children, household items such as drapes, small appliances, small furniture, knick knacks, craft items, art supplies, etc...
- All monetary donations help to continue running programs offered by the Central Islip Civic Council i.e. Free Special Community Events, Free Recreational Activities for Youth and Families, Purchases of Food for our Food Pantry, Holiday Tree Lighting Event and much more…

We are in need of food donations year round and would appreciate all the help you can lend.
